Park Banned Firewood in 2010

Shenandoah National Park in Virginia takes an aggressive stance against the Emerald Ash Borer by forbidding park visitors to bring in firewood or wood scraps. The ban has been in place since 2010, while foresters across the state work to control the spread of this devastating insect.

Firewood may be gathered within the park, and it is also available for purchase at park camp stores.

Use of charcoal is a recommended alternative for cooking.
