$4500 Fine for Firewood

PoliceAccording to this recent article from Arizona public radio station KJZZ  officials from the Department of Weights and Measures there are planning to get serious about the firewood business, levying a $4500 civil fine for failing to comply with signage or shorting quantities.

The article states that a recent audit of firewood vendors in Arizona revealed that about 25% failed to comply with state laws; and according the Department’s Compliance Director, many of them are repeat offenders who have been fined previously.

It is important to remember that firewood may only be sold in cords, fractions of a cord, or cubic feet (in the case of bundles) — and must be advertised as such. The NFA believes it is fine to advertise a rick, rack, face cord what have you — but the actual volume must be expressed in fraction of a cord.
