Firewood sales support senior center’s programs

EUREKA — Last month the Humboldt Senior Resource Center began the annual period when it sells low-cost wood vouchers for area seniors. Households with one person age 55 or older with a low-to-moderate income are eligible to purchase firewood vouchers.

This inexpensive means of heating one’s home is truly a win-win situation for both seniors and the center, as the money raised also supports vital programs at the center, such as the Home Delivered Meals program.

Vouchers can be redeemed for one cord of wood at the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Work Alternative Program lot, off Harrison Avenue in Eureka. Households may initially purchase up to two cords of wood. After Aug. 31, a household can purchase a third cord of wood if it is needed. KEEP READING >>
