THEFT BY DECEPTION, OLD SOM LANE: The owner of a Streetsboro-based tree service company has been charged in connection with firewood he received payment for in November but still hadn’t delivered by March 22. A resident reported earlier this month that he had paid $330 to the contractor, a Ravenna man, 45, for two cords of wood, and he knew of at least two other “customers” — one in Orange and the other in Pepper Pike — who had also paid $165 apiece for single cords of firewood in the same time frame, none of which were ever received. At the time of the “sale,” the suspect claimed he was running low on wood and needed the money up front to secure the load, police said. When the Moreland Hills man called back later in November about the missing shipment, he said he was told it would be delivered the next day, which it wasn’t. Two registered letters sent to the tree service requesting either the firewood or the money were mailed back and marked “return to sender.” KEEP READING >>
